Beavers lean on defense for opening win

Scott City wasn’t an offensive juggernaut in their season opener on Friday.

Fortunately, neither was Ulysses.

The Beavers were limited to just 99 rushing yards and only 192 yards of total offense, but they were able to convert that into a 17-0 win on the home field.

“Actually, the game looked a little better on film than it did that night,” says head coach Jim Turner. “There’s a lot to work on, but there should be after the first game of the season.

“The good thing is that our line and backs started executing with a little more consistency late in the third quarter.” Two big plays by quarterback Harrison
