Indians end skid with win over Dogs
With a full lineup on the floor for the first time in two weeks, the Wichita County High School boys ended a two game skid with a 52-40 win over Syracuse on the home floor Tuesday.
It was a much needed victory for the Indians (14-6) who had dropped four of their previous six games. Three of those setbacks came with junior guard/forward Sonnie Altman on the bench with an ankle injury.
With the win, WCHS also secured a No. 3 seed in the Class 2A sub-state tournament which they will be hosting next week.
“It was good to get back on the winning track heading into sub-state. The guys responded well after a couple of really tough losses,” says head coach Haydon Parks.
“Tonight we grinded the whole game against a Syracuse team that plays really good defense. They made us struggle at times offensively.”
The game was still up for grabs late in the third period with the Indians clinging to a 35-33 lead. That’s when they pulled away with an 11-2 scoring run.
