McDaniel’s ability to adapt extends his unbeaten streak at Abilene Invite

As a two-time state champion and three-time state medalist, it would seem that Justus McDaniel’s accomplishments speak for themselves.

That’s not to say that Scott Community High School head coach Aaron Dirks doesn’t continue to be impressed at what the senior can do on the wrestling mat.

It wasn’t that McDaniel (12-0) was able to earn wins over two of the state’s top 145-pounders at the Abilene Invitational last Saturday, but how he did it.

His ability to adjust his style when necessary, or simply impose his will upon an opponent, was impressive as he remained undefeated and solidified his No. 1 ranking in Class 4A.

In his third match of roundrobin competition, McDaniel faced No. 2 ranked Jonny Crome (Marysville) who had been undefeated before losing by a 1-0 decision earlier in the day to McPherson’s Rhett Edmonson.
