New court adds another dimension to the game

Most sports, or movie fans, will remember the scene in the basketball movie “Hoosiers” where coach Marvin Wood (played by Gene Hackman) measures the height of the basketball goal and the size of the rim in Butler University’s Hinkle Field House before his underdog team plays in a state tournament game.

The idea, of course, was to show his players that no matter how big the arena the basketball goals were the same.

Scott Community High School head coaches Brian Gentry and Sarah McCormick aren’t taking tape measures to their new surroundings at the Scott City Activity Center which will see its firstever basketball game on Tuesday against Goodland.

The portable basketball goals will look different, but the height and size of the rims won’t change.
