SC summer weights to begin Mon.

After a break of nearly 10 weeks, local athletes will return to school-sponsored activities with the start of summer weights in the Scott County school district.

Strength and conditioning coaches will abide by social distancing guidelines when the program begins on Mon., June 1, with the first week of workouts held at the high school track.

“We’ve met with health officials and we’re following their recommendations,” says SCHS strength coach Todd Richardson who, along with Jim Turner, oversees the summer program.

Workout stations will be set up around the football complex with groups limited to 15 athletes.

“We know that a lot of these kids aren’t coming into this in the same kind of condition they would have if there’d have been spring sports,” says Richardson. “During the first week or two we’ll have to ease into it and evaluate where they are.”
