SCHS boys sweep relays at Larned

After being away from the track for a year, Roberto Apadaco made an impression in his first high school competition.

The sophomore claimed a silver medal in the 3200m (11:39.94) and ran a 2:14.79 split on the winning 4x800m relay.

“We’re glad to have him out,” says head coach Jim Turner. “He’s been working hard in practice and we started seeing the result of that. Under these conditions and in his first meet of the season, he had a great day.”

The Beavers had only one individual gold medal and swept the three relays. But they had more than enough second and third place finishes to pile up some points and win the team title.

Scott City finished with 128 points, followed by Larned (98) and Lyons (76.5).

Sawyer Stevens was the lone individual to win an event when he cleared 10-foot-6 in the pole vault.
