Shapland sets new standard with 10-6 vault

It seemed that the big question wasn’t whether or not Madison Shapland could break the SCHS pole vault record.

It was more a matter of whether the Scott Community High School junior could remain injury-free long enough to give herself a chance.

While she’s still not 100 percent, Shapland still had more than enough to clear 10-foot-6 at the Garden City Invitational on Tuesday to not only win a gold medal, but put herself at the top of the all-time leader list at SCHS.

In addition to her record-setting leap, sophomore Paige Vulgamore cleared 10-feet to match the old record which had been set by Margo Sattler in 2009.

Prior to Tuesday, Shapland’s career best had been 9-foot-6.
