Tucker ready to leave his mark on mat program
As a state medalist during his freshman season, Theron Tucker had high hopes of a great wrestling career for Scott Community High School.
After seeing each of the last two seasons end with losses in the regional tournament, Tucker realizes he has one final opportunity to make his mark on the SCHS wrestling program.
He took the first step toward that goal with a gold medal at the Pratt Invitational on Saturday.
It was an impressive outing for the 145-pound senior who advanced into the finals on a fall and technical fall. In the championship match he won by a 7-2 decision over Dawson Chavez (Andale).
“Strength has always been an issue for Theron and I was concerned with how strong he would be at 145,” says head coach Aaron Dirks. “What impressed me most was that he wasn’t overpowered. He wrestled with confidence.”
While length has always been an asset for the 6-foot-2 grappler, he admits that power has been an issue.
