Wren may be put to ironman test in regional

Kaden Wren has demonstrated this season that he’s one of the top middle distance runners in Kansas.

In the upcoming Class 3A regional track meet to be hosted by Scott City, he may also get a chance to prove his endurance.

The Scott Community High School junior is entering regional with the second fastest time in the 400m (50.52) and the third fastest in the 800m (2:02.91). In addition, he’s also a member of the 4x400m and 4x800m relays which will be gold medal contenders at regional and state.

How far to stretch Wren is a tough decision weighing on head coach Jim Turner. He may have a better idea what’s in store for the outstanding junior following the rain-delayed Great West Activities Conference track meet on Friday.

Early this week, it was Turner’s intention to have Wren compete in all four events to get an indication of his recovery time.

His biggest concern is the short time between the 400m and the 800m, which are separated only by the 300m hurdles.
