Pioneer Camp looks at Dust Bowl life through music, games, stories

Kaden Burkhart signed up for Pioneer Camp at the El Quartelejo Museum because he wanted to have fun and learn about the Dust Bowl.

“I didn’t even know the Dust Bowl was a thing until now,” the 10-year-old said following the second day of camp.

Not only did he learn it was “a thing,” but he also learned what Western Kansans did to make life bearable during the huge dust storms and how they entertained themselves during such a difficult time.
