13 soloists, 3 groups earn I’s at regional; bound for state festival

Scott Community High School vocalists expect to get a greater appreciation for music as they prepare their selections for regional and state contest.

An added bonus is a greater understanding of a foreign language.

The 13 students who earned I ratings at regional and qualified for the state festival on April 27 performed one selection in English and a second piece in either Italian, French or German.

“It’s not a requirement for contest, but I require it for my soloists because it broadens their repertoire and challenges them,” says director Amanda Kennedy.

“Only performing in English doesn’t challenge the students to reach outside of their comfort zone.”

She feels the extra effort required to learn a foreign piece is recognized by the judges at regional and state.

Seniors who are among the state qualifiers are Kaitlyn Wolkensdorfer, Abby Ford and Stacy Dominguez.
