Gannon plaintiffs seek $500M now; $2B later
Plaintiffs in the Gannon school finance case told the Kansas Supreme Court the Legislature’s action still falls far short of constitutional funding, while the state says the court should accept over $1 billion in new funding as adequate.
Both sides filed briefs Monday, one week after the Legislature passed a “corrected” school finance bill adding an estimated $200 million in state funding next school year and over $100 million per year each of the next four years. Oral arguments are scheduled before the court on May 22 and the court has said it will rule in the matter by June 30.
