Healy students, community come together for local event

With wide open spaces and plenty of wind, Kansas should be a kite-flying mecca.

And while flying kites is much more popular on the east and west coasts, along with many foreign countries, that hasn’t kept Daren Ruth from enjoying the pastime.

Ruth was sharing his art of flying stunt kites with students at Healy during “Go Fly a Kite Day” last Wednesday. Students were encouraged to bring kites and several had the opportunity to test their skill with one of two stunt kites belonging to Ruth.

The all-school activity emerged from a combination music/literature class taught last spring by Deanna Fraley, the district’s music instructor.
