PAT is back
A long-time desire to get into the classroom, along with a passion for community outreach, have come together at the right time for Kyley Whittaker.
She can realize both interests as the Parents as Teachers (PAT) coordinator in USD 466 (Scott County). The district is bringing back the popular program that had been idle for five years after Stacy Davis stepped down from that position.
“This is a valuable program for early childhood development and having kids better prepared when they enter pre-K and kindergarten, but we couldn’t find anyone interested in filling the position,” says Supt. Jamie Rumford.
In the past, the program was coordinated through Greenbush, an education consortium based in southeast Kansas. The district paid them a fee for hiring staff, paperwork, evaluation, etc.
