SCMS 7th graders perfect in winning quiz bowl title

With knowledge ranging from math, to language arts to current events, the Scott City Middle School seventh graders wrapped up a very successful quiz bowl season by winning the Great West Activities Conference championship.

The seventh graders were undefeated in five rounds of competition which they hosted last Monday afternoon.

Members of the championship team were Valerie Catano, Kadence Allen, Emily Kasselman, Sage Stoecklein, Kalo Hineman and Houston Frank.

“Each of us has something we’re pretty good at,” says Hineman. “Some of us are good at fine arts, some at social studies and some at math. That’s how we put our team together.”

Stoecklein says his strengths are sports and social studies.

“When it comes to the NBA or college basketball I know a lot about that,” he says.

Frank said he does best when the questions are about general knowledge (miscellaneous) or current events.

Each round of competition consists of 16 questions divided into eight categories: language arts (3), social studies (3), math (3), science (3), sports (1), fine arts (1), miscellaneous (1) and the year in review (1).
