Tootsie Roll drive raises $3,989 for special ed services in district

Special education services in USD 466 (Scott County) and the state Special Olympics have been presented with more than $6,500 in donations from the local Knights of Columbus Council No. 5212.

The donations were raised from the annual Tootsie Roll fund drive held in the fall.

The USD 466 special education program received a $3,989, with another $1,000 earmarked for the southwest area Special Olympics organization.

The Knights also donated $300 to the Dodge City REACH program which sponsors special needs children who attend Camp Christy near Lake Scott State Park during the summer.

Another $1,200 was sent to the state chapter for Special Olympics events.

Donations are based on the Knight’s “Commitment to Humanity” campaign. The majority of the council’s fundraising proceeds remain in the local area.
