Many of Kansas’ largest public school districts are pushing their start date until after Labor Day to provide additional preparation time in light of a surge in COVID-19 infections.
Nine students from Scott, Wichita and Lane counties were among more than 3,370 who completed degree requirements from Kansas State University during the spring semester.
The University of Kansas has reversed course and decided to leave it up to department chairs and directors whether to hold in-person classes this fall.
Elementary school students in Kansas won’t be expected to wear masks unless they’ve been sent to the nurse with COVID-19 symptoms. Students older than 12 will have to wear masks, and the Kansas plan to reopen schools calls for having them help make masks and plexiglass barriers.
